(Content note: suicide) In 1986, fifteen-year-old Richard steps onto a Lower East Side corner to make his first crack sale. Fresh out of a Jehovah’s Witness childhood and living with his drug-dealing father, he cooks the product with his friend Rob, puts on his best hard-guy front, and hands a twitchy customer two vials. Then the man packs his pipe, lights it, and drops.
