Synopsis

In high school, Susan’s best friend is an African American boy whom she just adores and spends tons of time with. His feelings for her go beyond friendship, and while she acknowledges that deep down, if she’d let herself, she probably felt that way about him too, she can’t break through the racial divide of their extremely socially segregated school and let herself date him, which results in her breaking his heart, and eventually growing apart from him. Decades later, she contacts him before their high school reunion, and they have dinner together, and though it feels wonderful to connect, as soon as she tries to talk about what happened long ago, awkwardness descends, and she can tell he’s still deeply hurt.
