Synopsis

(Content note: sexual assault, justifiable homicide) After her transition to a new gender identity in middle age, Annie’s relationship with her cousin and friend Michael takes a turn. One night, he subjects her to hours of violence until she finally shoots him in self defense. A transphobic DA charges Annie with first degree murder and throws her into an all-male prison. After surviving 18 months of abuse, solitary confinement, and a serial killer cellmate with a hatred of transgender people, she is coerced into a plea deal that brands her for life as a convicted first-degree murderer. Annie begins a final fight to find a way back to family, love and the safety of home.
