At 16, Peter is growing up in rural South Jersey. He decides to do something special for his girlfriend Katie and spice up their sex life by taking her to a lovely, romantic spot in the woods. As they lie on a blanket in a clearing, nearing orgasm, Peter realizes that Katie’s head is resting on a nest of bright red deer ticks; they’ve emerged from the nest and are surrounding her head like the nimbus of light you see in Renaissance-era Jesus paintings. He can’t get himself to tell her, and she doesn’t seem to realize...but as they sit on the couch afterwards, watching TV, Peter pretends to comb his girlfriend’s hair while surreptitiously impaling the emerging ticks on a stick pin...for four hours.Themes/Keywords: bugs, deer ticks, forest, insects, intercourse, Lyme Disease, New Jersey, NJ, Radio story, rural, sex, South Jersey, teenagers, teens, ticks, wildlife, woods
