"The Trouble with Tooty"

This story was told by Andy Borowitz on episode #108: The Strangest of Strangers

Synopsis

Note: These summaries are designed to help fans find their favorite stories and may contain spoilers!
As a new college-grad writer in LA, Andy got hired to write for the TV show “The Facts of Life.” It was a terrible show, and Andy made an effort to create actually funny dialogue for the boarding school girls. The producers, however, were disappointed in his script; he was told that he “didn’t get Tootie” -- she sounded just like Natalie. “Natalie is wise-cracking,” they said, “And Tootie is sassy.” Unsurprisingly, Andy wasn’t asked back for a second season, and retained some pride in the fact that on the worst sitcom he’d ever seen, he was the worst writer.
