Synopsis

Ophira is 17. She’s just graduated high school in Calgary, and is heading for a year-long adventure trip to Australia when she meets David, a cool older guy whom she falls madly in love with. She spends much of her time in Australia missing him and writing letters to him, until she realizes she’s letting all the adventure go by without really participating. She then makes up for this by having a drunken fling with a complete stranger. In the morning, Ophelia feels so guilty that she calls David, and before she can say anything, he announces that he’s going to meet her in LA as she flies back home, and they can drive along the coast back to Calgary together. The two reunite in LA, and their drive is amazing, except for the fact that David starts complaining that “it hurts when he pees.” His pain gets worse and worse, until they have to stop at a drug store to find some ointment. In the parking lot, David asks the vital question – has Ophelia been with anyone else? Did she cheat on him in Australia? Ophelia finds it impossible to tell him the truth. First she says no, absolutely not…but the guilt of possibly being the cause of her boyfriend’s impending STD is too much, and she changes her story: she was raped, she says. At this, David freaks out, insisting on knowing all the details, and as Ophelia invents them on the spot, he realizes she’s lying. David tells Ophelia he can’t be in a relationship with someone who’d lie about being raped, and the two break up, there in the car…in which they’ll be spending the next full week driving to Calgary.
