At 36, Larry is invited to join an all-men’s a capella singing group in LA. He’s never been the kind of guy who was asked to join an all-men’s anything, and had always wanted to be a part of things like this, so he’s very excited. The group is called The Upscales, and they’re really professional; the music and the sound they try to achieve is challenging for Larry, as is the conformity, and the mirthful attitude -- he finds himself just not clicking with them the way he’d hoped. He starts focusing more on his own inner life and independence, and eventually makes the big decision to move to New York. As he waits for the train at the train station, he hears a familiar song wafting through the air -- one of the big hits of The Upscales’ repertoire -- and there they are. The whole group had come to sing him off to his new life, and suddenly Larry feels the closest to them he’s ever been.Themes/Keywords: choir, Constantinople., ensemble, group, harmony, independence, Istanbul, jazz, LA, Los Angeles, men, mirthful, misfit, New York, NY, outsider, performances, pop, Radio story, singing, The Upscales, train, tunes, vibrato, vocal, vocal arrangements
